Why God Uses Our Testimony to Help Others

“A new song for a new day rises up in me every time I think about how He breaks through for me! Ecstatic praise pours out of my mouth until everyone hears how God has set me free. Many will see His miracles; they’ll stand in awe of God and fall in love with Him!”

~ Psalm 40:3 (TPT)

“He has put a new song in my mouth; praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.”

~ Psalm 40:3 (NKJV)

Psalm 40:3 says, “Many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.” Those words reveal something beautiful about the way God works in the lives of His people. When God restores someone, He often uses that restoration to help others see His faithfulness more clearly. A testimony becomes more than a personal story. It becomes evidence of the goodness, mercy, and power of God.

Behind many smiles are burdens that others never see. Some are battling fear, shame, grief, confusion, addiction, loneliness, or deep wounds from the past. Outwardly, they may appear fine, yet inwardly, they feel exhausted and overwhelmed. Some are praying silently, wondering if God truly sees them or whether things will ever change.

Everything can begin to shift when they hear someone share what God has done in their life.

They hear how God brought peace into chaos, healing into wounded places, freedom into bondage, or strength into moments of weakness. Hope begins to rise. They begin to realize that the same God who helped someone else may also help them.

Testimony plays such an important role in the Christian life because it points people back to God. It reminds hurting hearts that He still heals, still restores, still delivers, and still walks with people through difficult seasons. Testimony reminds us that God has not changed and that His faithfulness is still available today.

The enemy often tries to keep people trapped in shame and silence. Many fear being judged for the things they have walked through. Others feel as though their story is too broken, too painful, or too complicated to share. Yet throughout Scripture, God repeatedly uses imperfect people and wounded stories to reveal His grace.

David knew failure and sorrow. Peter knew regret after denying Jesus. Paul understood what it meant to be radically transformed by God’s mercy. Again and again, Scripture shows us that God is able to redeem broken places and use restored lives to encourage others.

Wisdom and discernment are important when sharing personal experiences. Not every part of someone’s story needs to be shared publicly, and some areas require time, healing, and prayer before they can be spoken about openly. Yet there are moments when God opens a door for someone to speak, and their testimony becomes a source of hope for another person who feels alone.

Psalm 40:3 says that “many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.” The biblical idea of fear here is not terror. It is reverence, awe, and a deeper recognition of who God is. David understood that what God had done in his life was meant to point people back toward God’s faithfulness. His rescue became praise, and his praise became a witness to others.

People are not searching for perfect individuals who have never struggled. Many are simply looking for hope. They need to know that God still meets people in real pain, real weakness, and real brokenness. They need to know that no pit is too deep for His hand to reach into and no situation is beyond His power to redeem.

Sometimes the testimony someone wants to hide becomes the very thing God uses to help another person keep going. A testimony can help someone believe again, pray again, trust again, or surrender their life to God. It can remind a hurting person that their current season is not the end of their story.

God often uses the very places where people once felt broken to develop compassion, wisdom, understanding, and ministry. The comfort He gives us during our own struggles often becomes the comfort we can extend to others. What once felt like a painful chapter can later become part of someone else’s healing journey.

Testimonies carry such power because they point beyond human strength and back to God’s faithfulness. A testimony is not ultimately a story about how strong someone was. It is a story about how faithful God is. It reminds us that even in seasons when we felt weak, overwhelmed, or uncertain, God remained constant. He was present in the struggle, faithful in the waiting, and victorious in the outcome.

When people hear heartfelt stories of God's faithfulness, they are reminded that they are not alone. They begin to see that the same God who worked in someone else's life can work in theirs as well. Scripture reminds us that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). He does not show favoritism or reserve His love, mercy, grace, and faithfulness for a select few. While every person's journey is unique and God's timing may differ, His character never changes. The same God who brought healing, restoration, freedom, provision, strength, or hope into one person's life is able to move powerfully in another person’s life as well. Testimonies build faith because they remind us that what God has done before, He is still able to do today. They encourage us to believe that if God brought someone else through their season, He can carry us through ours as well.

A testimony is often born from a season that someone never wanted to walk through but would not trade because of what God accomplished through it. Looking back, many believers can see how God used their greatest struggles to reveal His greatest faithfulness.

Psalm 40:3 reminds us that when God puts a new song in someone's heart, that song often becomes a source of hope for others as well. What God does in one life can encourage another person to trust Him, seek Him, and believe that their breakthrough may be closer than they think.
